Le Pianure Pinot Nero 2023 (Veneto, Italy)

The Stocco family has dedicated itself to the love and care of its land for more than 100 years, with four generations of wine producers and a history created by forward-thinkers, it is now represented by Andrea. The Friuli Grave wine producing area, where the winery is located, is a large flood plain between the provinces of Pordenone and Udine. Here, the gravelly, stony and chalky soil of the Grave favours Andrea’s white and red indigenous grape varieties.

Pinot Nero (a.k.a. Pinot Noir) is probably not the first grape that comes to mind when you think of Italian wines, and while it’s often hidden in red blends, it thrives as a mono-varietal in the northern reaches of Italy. Higher elevation and cooler temperatures aid in evoking an almost Burgundian style of red wine, but with its own unique Northern Italian spin.

Fresh and dry, with soft tannins, plentiful red fruit and wonderful acidity, this wine is an unassuming crowd pleaser. Currant, wild berries, and floral notes of rose and violet mingle with just the slightest hint of earthy spice. We love this wine with a slight chill!

Food Idea: Poached salmon w/ green garlic & roasted carrots, mushroom pizza, homestyle pot roast, meatball subs, Shepherd’s pie
